I would like to welcome you all to Colby Grade School! My name is Julie Ziegelmeier and I will be serving as your PreK-4th Grade Principal. I have been in education for over 25 years and have enjoyed every bit of the connections I have made with students and staff in those years. I attended Colby Community College to earn an Associates Degree in Education, Fort Hays State University to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Education, and Emporia State University to earn a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and an ESOL endorsement. I am excited to get started with staff and students at CGS!

My husband Warren and I are a farming family and enjoy spending time taking care of momma cows and the crops, among other things that come with farming. I also enjoy quality time with my family, gardening, quilting and we are an avid supporter of 4-H and shooting sports. We have one son, Cole.

Welcome to Open House tonight from 4:30-5:30! Looking forward to meeting you!

Dear Parents and Families, Due to the extremely high winds today, we are making adjustments to our after-school pick-up procedures for the safety of our students. Kindergarten through 2nd Grade will have INSIDE pick-up today. Here's how it will work: Kindergarten: Kindergarten teachers will release students to parents waiting at the main Kindergarten door. Please walk up to the door or ensure your vehicle is easily recognizable if you are waiting in your car. 1st Grade: First-grade teachers will release students at the usual double doors by the playground. Please wait by the doors, walk up to the doors, or wave towards the building from a recognizable vehicle. 2nd Grade: Second-grade teachers will release students by the ramp. Please wait by the ramp, walk up to the ramp, or ensure your vehicle is easily recognizable. We appreciate your cooperation in making this a smooth and safe dismissal for all our students. Please be patient and drive carefully. Thank you for your understanding.

USD 315 has recently been made aware of threats circulating on TikTok similar to those reported in other Kansas school districts. While no credible evidence has been found indicating an immediate threat to USD 315 students or staff, we are in collaboration with the Colby Police Department, will take extra precautions on that date to ensure the safety and security of everyone in the schools. This will include an increased police presence. USD 315 values the continued support and cooperation of the community as they work through this situation. The safety of students is USD 315’s top priority and they are confident that, together, they will maintain a secure environment in the schools. Reports of similar threats have surfaced in multiple states, including Kansas, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Texas, Tennessee and Florida. USD 315 encourages anyone who notices suspicious activity or has concerns to report it immediately to local law enforcement.

Today is the day to celebrate our district transportation department! These staff members are often out-of-sight and out-of-mind, but are a part of our student's everyday routine. Thank you for safely getting our students to and from school on time and ready to learn. We appreciate the long hours taking field trips and athletic teams to events and back. The board and administration wants to recognize the responsibility these drivers have each day. We appreciate this team. Help us say thank you to: Cindy Black - Transportation Director, Alan Ackerman, Ike Donn, Brad Fikan, Peyton Guthrie, Carol Morgan, Tracy Rogers, Michael Schneider, Bob Weber, Sherry Barrett #WeAreTheEagles315
