Here at Colby Grade School we are always on the lookout for new strategies to help our students learn and Bal-A-Vis-X is one of the programs we have looked at. Due to tight budget constraints, we are so pleased to receive grant money to cover the cost of supplies for this program. Colby Grade School was awarded a grant from the City of Colby Special Law Enforcement Fund at the Thomas County Community Foundation to help purchase Bal-A-Vis-X supplies. We would like to thank them for their generosity and support of our public schools.
Bal-A-Vis-X is a series of Balance/Auditory/Vision exercises which are deeply routed in rhythm. It is a school friendly program that requires focused attention, cooperation, promotes self-challenge and encourages peer teaching. One teacher used Bal-A-Vis-X before starting math lessons and noticed a dramatic increase in focus and attention to the lesson. Students will see gains in eye-hand coordination, confidence, and self-esteem, which will benefit students academically, behaviorally and emotionally.
Certain classroom teachers have been trained to use it in their classrooms and the PE instructors have also received training. Once school is in session, we also have Bal-A-Vis-X sessions in the morning before school starts. If you are interested in the program, you can ask your child's classroom teacher or the PE teachers for more information.
