High School Art Exhibits

The Colby High School Art Department has been busy recently with many art exhibits this spring. The department has done very well in their shows under the leadership of instructor, Donna Roberts, and they have collected many awards and positive recognition. We are very proud of our students and want to acknowledge their hard work.
The NWKL Art Show was held this year in Oakley, Ks. The display was up from April 7th through April 9th. At this exhibit the Best of Show for Colby High School was Kaylee M. Blue Ribbon winners were: Tess B. (4 ribbons), Brittany B. (2 ribbons), Keesa W., Emilea F., Sam S., Amy S., Brenna M., Megan D., Karen U., Chelsey S. and Michelle S..
On April 14th the students took work to the campus of Ft. Hays State University for the Ft. Hays State Kansas High School Art Competition. Various high schools around the state take artwork and set up a booth to be judged. Colby High School did well for their department, receiving 41 ribbons. Student Award of Excellence Winners were: Keesa W. – 2 awards, Alyse D., Garrett R., Brittany B.- 2 awards, Amy S., Kaylee M., Jared N. – 2 awards, Megan D.- 2 awards, Annestacia E.- 3 awards, Michelle S.- 3 awards, Laura J., Kai C., Ashley S.- 2 awards, Keanna K., Karen U., Sam S.- 3 awards, Kayla S., Bob S., Tess B.- 4 awards, Emilea F.- 2 awards, Krisstal K.- 2 awards, Brenna M.- 2 awards, Audra F. and Madison G..
Samantha S. also received another art accomplishment when she won first place in the Drawing category at the Congressional Art Show sponsored by Jerry Moran. She also won a Merit Award of $100.00 at the Gerry Neustrom show held in Salina. Two other Colby High students had their work chosen to be exhibited in this prestigious show, Brittany B. and Krisstal K.. Samantha S. also won first place for her batik at the Oberlin Art Fest. Krisstal K., Brittany B., Michelle S., Ashley S., and Annestacia E. all received Judge’s Merit Awards at Oberlin. You can see artwork by our many talented art students at the Colby High School End of the Year Art Show. It will be open to the public in the High School Commons Area on May 11, 2010 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and again from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Please make time to view the exceptional work by our many talented students.
