Freshman Orientation a Success!

Fifty-eight students attended “Passport to the Future,” an orientation for incoming freshmen at Colby High School August 13.  The nearly 80% turnout was slightly lower than past years, but has remained a strong tool and reinforcer for students making the transition from middle school to high school.

Students were provided with valuable information regarding their new school, as well as learning interesting facts about the pressures of being a teenager.  The orientation began at 12:30 p.m. and carried through 7:00 p.m., and was highlighted by a barbeque dinner for students and parents and a guest speaker, Brock Fairbrother, of the Thomas County Regional Prevention Center.  Sessions throughout the day were presented on creating a four-year plan, successful student strategies, bullying and character education, roadblocks to success, and school spirit.

Colby High School would like to thank Dillons and McDonalds for helping to sponsor the event.
