Spring sports and activities at Colby High School have been very successful and are either completed or approaching the final phase for '08”. Our forensics team completed a very successful season qualifying 16 out of 16 for state competition. The Eagles finished in 7th place in 4A competition in the state meet out of 52 teams. Placing in state for the Eagles were Katelyn H. – 6th in Serious Solo Acting, Courtney R. – 2nd in Oral Interpretation of Prose, and Gray H. – State Champion in Oral Interpretation of Poetry.
Our boys’ and girls’ track team have had several meets canceled due to weather but are improving daily and looking forward to hosting the NWKL meet May 9 and the 4A regional meet May 16. Several individuals have some of the best marks in the area in their respective areas.
The baseball team is currently 9-7 heading into the 4A regionals next Monday. They are much better than their record indicates and have a chance to qualify for state if they play well.
The Lady Eagle’s softball suffered their lone loss of the season this week to archrival Goodland. The Eagles are currently 17-1 and seeded No. 1 in the 4A regional tournament.
Colby’s boys’ tennis team took first at regionals and qualified four for sub-state. Jeremy H. emerged from the sub-state tennis tournament as a state qualifier for CHS. Good Luck to Jeremy!
The boys’ golf team continues to improve each week. The Eagles took first at our own Colby Invitational May 1. Riley H. was the individual gold medalist for the home team. The golfers are set to compete in the 4A regionals next Monday in Pratt.
