The Value of a Good Work Ethic

by Rocky Robbins, CHS principal

April 16, 2008

Many times, work ethic is a trait used to describe or characterize someone.  The value of a good work ethic is immeasurable.  A view into the hallways at Colby High School would have many agree that we are fortunate that the students filling our hallways possess good work ethics.

This is part of a hidden curriculum—taught informally through experience—and is as important for the growth of an individual as learning the academics.  The values of manners, courtesy, discipline, self-esteem, good attendance and many other positive attributes help to form the character education traits of the hidden curriculum.  It defines who the person is, while defining what they know.

As Colby High School continues to strive to meet our goals academically, we are also looking for ways to improve the character of our students to prepare them to live and work in a productive manner in their future endeavors.  The mission of Colby Public Schools is to prepare all students to be life-long learners and responsible citizens.
