CMS Globetrotter Groups Demonstrate Caring

by Sherry Kinderknecht

April 08, 2008

The Colby Middle School Globetrotter groups recently participated in an activity to foster the character trait caring. Students were given the challenge to collect non-perishable food items only knowing that the items would be donated to the Genesis Food Bank upon completion of an activity. The students brought items ranging from snack packs to peanut butter to canned soups and juices. Then on Wednesday, April 2, the students were given a challenge. The objective was to build the tallest free-standing structure that they could using only the food items donated.

Winning the competition with a height of 53 inches were the groups Birds of Prey, Mainly Sports, and Mile Makers. With a height of 49.5 inches, the El Diablos, Fuzzy Ducks, and the No Names placed second. Not far behind, with a height of 48.5 inches, the groups Aerosmith, Sanguage People, and the Squiggles tied with the groups Astronaut Monkeys, Destination America and the Gods and Goddesses for third.

On Thursday, April 3, a group of students, along with Mrs. Kinderknecht, delivered the food to the Genesis Food Bank. Mrs. Bixenman greeted the group upon arrival. After stocking the food on the shelves, Mrs. Bixenman provided information about the food bank and gave a quick tour of the facility to the group.
