Highly Qualified Staff-Definition
All teachers who teach core subjects should be designated “Highly Qualified.”  95% of the non-core faculty must be Highly Qualified.  95% of Colby Public Schools staff is Highly Qualified for their current teaching assignment.  All of our CPS staff have teaching licenses; however ones that are not Highly Qualified are teaching a class that they do not have an endorsement for on their license.  The other 5% that are not Highly Qualified are currently working to become so.

To be considered Highly Qualified, a teacher must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and have a valid license to teach in Kansas.  The license must have the appropriate content and level endorsement for the teaching assignment.  Subject matter competency can be demonstrated by either passing the Praxis test or meeting the State standard of evaluation.
